Brief Summary
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy is one of the acquisitions under the Egis Group, an
international firm operating in the mobility service, construction engineering, and consulting
sectors. Egis Group operates across 120 countries and has many acquisitions worldwide, and
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy is one of them. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy was
formed in 2023 after Egis Group completed the acquisition of Saudi Architectural and
Engineering Consultancy Omrania in 2023. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy has at least
3,000 employees after the acquisition, which shows that the company has a wide market outreach
that requires a lot of personnel. The company has built a reliable brand that offers construction,
engineering, and consulting services across its four offices in Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, and
Al-Ula.
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy is one of the best companies that one can work for,
and this was evident throughout my internship. Mr. Alia Abdulhadi, an HR and Organizational
Development (OD) specialist at Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s Riyadh office, was my
supervisor during the internship. Dr. Ibrahim Alhassan, Assistant Professor of Business
Information Systems at Saudi Electric University, also supervised my performance during the
internship based on academic guidelines. Nevertheless, some of my activities during the
internship at Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy revolved around the Consulting and Finance
divisions. They include learning about the company’s cycle, inputting data in Microsoft Excel
spreadsheets, translating letters received from clients, creating monthly reports, tracking
invoices, and preparing Microsoft PowerPoint presentations.

1.2 The Company’s Ownership
Egis Group is a private company with three key stakeholders – Tikehau Capital, Caisse
des Dépôts, and its partner managers and employees. Tikehau Capital owns most of the shares of
Egis Group, that is, 40% of the company, through its T2 Energy Transition Fund. The T2 Energy
Transition Fund enables Tikehau Capital to offer financial products to small and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs) (AFEP, n.d.), and one of the companies it has partnered with is Egis Group.
Caisse des Dépôts is a French public financial institution that owns 34% of Egis, and it assists
the company’s finances through a governmental framework. Finally, Egis Group has Egis
Partenaires and a Corporate Mutual Fund Share that gives its partner managers and employees
26% of the company. Egis completed the acquisition of Saudi Architectural and Engineering
6
Consultancy Omrania in 2023 (ZAWYA, 2023), to form the Egis Saudi Engineering
Consultancy. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s ownership operates under a similar
shareholder structure as Egis Group.
1.3 The Company’s Sectors of Operation
Egis Group operates in the mobility service, construction engineering, and consulting
sectors and works with clients globally to build a more resilient, sustainable, and balanced world
(Egis, n.d., [a]). Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy also offers similar services and operates in
the same sectors as its parent company. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy operates in Saudi
Arabia’s mobility service sector which transports people and goods. This implies that Egis Saudi
Engineering Consultancy builds infrastructure, mainly roads, through civil engineering. Egis
Saudi Engineering Consultancy also operates in the construction engineering sector, which
essentially includes construction work for buildings, assembly work, design, and project
management. Finally, Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy operates in the consulting sector, that
is, offering its clients advice on proper engineering through its expertise and specialized labor.
1.4 The Company’s Customers and Clients
Egis Group has at least 19,000 employees across the 120 countries it operates in
(LinkedIn, n.d., [a]), and since its acquisition of Saudi Architectural and Engineering
Consultancy Omrania in 2023, Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy is currently projected to
have approximately 3,000 or more employees. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy offers retail
services directly to its customers and clients, such as consultancy regarding construction,
building roads, and offering specialized labor. Contextually, Egis Saudi Engineering
Consultancy’s retailers are its offices in Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, and Al-Ula. Egis Group has
7
many acquisitions worldwide that can be considered as its manufacturers in terms of formulating
mechanisms and frameworks to offer its retail services. This implies that Egis Saudi Engineering
Consultancy’s offices in Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, and Al-Ula can also be considered as the
company’s manufacturers. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s customers and clients include
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services, construction firms, engineering
companies, and real estate developers.
1.5 The Company’s Organizational Chart
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s organizational structure is hierarchical, which is a
traditional form of leadership preferred by many organizations in Saudi Arabia. The company’s
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Alaa AbuSaim, who is in charge of all offices in the Middle
East and South Asia offices. The company also has eight major departments, including Legal
Matters, Ethics, and Compliance, Human Resources, Development, and Transportation (check
the image next page). Each department has its CEO, and they report directly to Alaa AbuSaim.
As mentioned, Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy has at least 3,000 employees after the
acquisition in 2023, and they are spread out across these eight major departments.

2. INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES
2.1 Internship Working Conditions
During my internship, my supervisor was Mr. Alia Abdulhadi, an HR and Organizational
Development (OD) specialist at Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s Riyadh office (LinkedIn,
n.d., [b]). One can reach him through his email, [email protected]. Mr. Alia was
readily available to help, and he avoided constant criticism, and his constructive advice enabled
me to improve continuously. Baird and Mollen (2023) assert that supervisors should be able to
be available to assist interns and give them space to develop their skills and expertise. Dr.
Ibrahim Alhassan, Assistant Professor of Business Information Systems at Saudi Electric
University, also supervised my internship performance based on academic expectations. Some of
my main co-workers during my internship included Fathan Ilman Malik and Aabid Ahmed
Omar. They offered Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s clients advice on financial and
accounting matters, respectively. Fathan’s and Aabid’s functions complemented the tasks I
executed during the internship, mainly data analysis on Microsoft Excel and preparing Microsoft
PowerPoint presentations.
2.2 The Company’s Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, Quality, and Marketing
Standards Principles
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy uses Saudi Arabia’s generally accepted accounting
principles (GAAP), which are based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and
adopted by the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA). The
company also follows legal financial principles that require the firm to analyze several monetary
metrics and formulate reports for its stakeholders. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy also
12
follows the information technology principles laid out under the Saudi Data and Artificial
Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), including controlled business data exchange, securing the
clients’ personal data, and protecting the clients’ data from third-party companies. The
company’s quality specification standards are determined by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and
Quality Organization (SASO) and the Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization
(GSO). Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s marketing standards are grounded in ethics. For
instance, the company ensures that its visuals are culturally appropriate and its advertisements
prompt individuals to comply with local and federal standards when accessing its services.
2.3 The Company’s Quality Planning and Control Activities
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s quality planning and control activities are mainly
customer-centric, and this has enabled the firm to attract many clients across Saudi Arabia.
Companies flourish in their respective industries when they base their quality planning and
control on their customers, since it caters to their preferences, enhances their experience, and
fosters loyalty (Rane et al., 2023). Consequently, Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy spends a
lot of money on research and development as one of its quality planning and control activities.
The company uses a proactive approach to R&D since it aims to be ahead in Saudi Arabia’s
mobility service, construction engineering, and consulting sectors. This enables the company to
offer the best services for its customers based on what is relevant and groundbreaking in the
industry.
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy also engages in constant digital transformation as
another quality planning and control mechanism. Digital transformation is crucial in the current
fifth industrial revolution, as many customers look for efficient services that embrace technology
(Imran et al., 2021). Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy uses technology to transform its ability
13
to offer top-notch construction, engineering, and consulting services. Finally, another crucial
quality planning and control activity that Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy is continuous
improvement, that is, following Kaizen principles. The company formulated goals and objectives
that aim to minimize the waste of resources and maximize profits by focusing on customers. This
has allowed Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy to make small changes to refine its operations
and steadily better its services.
2.4 The Company’s Quality Planning and Control Activities throughout the Life Cycle of
its Service Groups
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy engages in process control as one of its main quality
planning and control activities throughout the life cycle of its service groups. Process control is
crucial for companies as it ensures that they examine the services they provide to identify
mistakes and correct them immediately (Berger & Hart, 2020). Egis Saudi Engineering
Consultancy ensures that it controls the processes of its service groups in the mobility service,
construction engineering, and consulting sectors. This ensures that the company offers the best
services. Another crucial quality planning and control activity that Egis Saudi Engineering
Consultancy engages in throughout the life cycle of its service groups is efficient information
exchange among its service groups. Effective information exchange ensures that the company’s
service groups have a steady flow of operations. This allows Egis Saudi Engineering
Consultancy to offer reliable services to its clients.
Collaboration is also another crucial quality planning and control activity that Egis Saudi
Engineering Consultancy conducts throughout the life cycle of its service groups, which fosters
teamwork among the company’s service groups. Since Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy
operates in the mobility service, construction engineering, and consulting sectors, collaboration
14
among the respective service groups ensures efficient firm operations. Finally, another crucial
quality planning and control activity that Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy engages in
throughout the life cycle of its service groups is acceptance sampling. Acceptance sampling is
crucial for companies as it allows them to discover how their services offer utility to their
customers and satisfy quality standards (Evans et al., 2020). Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy
conducts acceptance sampling to ensure that its services are of top quality and they satisfy its
clients in its respective sectors of operation.
2.5 The Company’s Financial Analysis and Decision-Making Methods Used by Corporate
Treasurers and Financial Managers
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy has several financial analysis methods that it uses to
assess the viability, stability, and profitability of its services and projects. Some of them include
trend analysis, cash flow analysis, ratio analysis, liquidity analysis, and forecasting. Egis Saudi
Engineering Consultancy’s corporate treasurers and financial managers use financial statements
to analyze the company’s monetary status. These financial statements are also crucial as they
help Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy report its profitability to its stakeholders. Egis Saudi
Engineering Consultancy’s corporate treasurers and financial managers consider the
stakeholders’ expectations when making crucial monetary decisions for the firm. Forecasting is
also crucial for the company’s corporate treasurers and financial managers as it allows them to
use historical financial data to make informed estimates that are predictive in determining the
direction of future trends (Polak et al., 2020). This allows Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy to
decide what to invest in based on its future aims and objectives.
15
2.6 The Company’s Incentives to Create an Efficient and Effective Organization
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy understands that its employees are its greatest asset,
and it offers them incentives to prompt them to better their performance and feel valued by the
company. Kryscynski et al. (2021) assert that incentives create an efficient and effective
organization as they enable employees to look for ways to improve how they execute their roles.
Some of the incentives that Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy uses to create an efficient and
effective organization include recognition and reward programs, bonuses and raises, and health
and wellness programs. Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy uses its recognition and reward
programs to show the employees that their performance is appreciated by the firm. The company
also offers bonuses and raises for employees who improve their performance levels based on or
exceeding the management’s expectations. Finally, Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy has
health and wellness programs, which are imperative for the employees’ well-being for top-tier
performance.
2.7 Working Documents and Analysis during the Internship
Some of the working documents that were common during my internship were
memorandums, emails, invoices, and company policies. I received many memos from the heads
of the Consulting and Operations department, the division I was working in, about information
about specific issues, such as meeting arrangements and the management’s expectations. I also
received many emails from Mr. Alia Abdulhadi, for instance about what I need to learn to make
the most out of my internship. I also have many emails about ongoing issues in the company and
the Consulting and Operations department. I also analyzed many invoices from Egis Saudi
Engineering Consultancy’s Finances and Strategy department using Microsoft Excel, specifically
16
to check for accounts receivable. I also had to go through the documents showing Egis Saudi
Engineering Consultancy’s policies to understand what I needed to comply with as an intern.
The main analysis that I conducted throughout my internship related to financial data, as I
was required to conduct cash flow analysis, ratio analysis, liquidity analysis, and forecasting. I
used Microsoft Excel to conduct these financial analysis activities using the application’s
mathematical functions. This analysis is crucial for the company to understand its monetary
status and make crucial decisions in the present and for the future, and I had to be careful to
make no errors. The main experiences that I gained during the internship were improving my
communication skills, learning more about collaboration, better teamwork, and enhancing my
skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. The internship also built my confidence about being
able to work for a company of Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s stature, which is crucial for
my career’s trajectory.
2.8 Comparisons between Theory (learned in Class) and Practice (during the Internship)
One of the main things that I learned in class is that a company’s management should
listen to the employee’s opinions to make them feel valued and appreciated. As true as this may
be, it was different during the internship, as I noticed that employees must be valuable to the
company to be listened to by the management. As an intern, there was no way that I could voice
my opinions as I had to earn my place based on what I offered to the company. Nevertheless,
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy has an environment that allows interns to flourish and
develop their skill sets. In class, I learned that one should adhere to the company’s expectations
and even exceed them in some cases to get rewards through incentives.
17
During the internship, I saw that it was extremely difficult to get rewards from the
company regardless of exceeding one’s expected performance levels. One should be openminded enough to notice that they should not work for recognition, and they should not base
their performance on these incentives. Interns should understand that they are working to gain
experience, and not recognition (Qu et al., 2021), which does not imply that they cannot be
rewarded. Finally, in class, I learned that communication and teamwork are crucial for top-notch
employee performance. However, during my internship, I saw that one should have constructive
communication and teamwork frameworks that allow one to improve their experience. Interns
should be open to those with whom they feel like they can enable them to improve and work
with those who genuinely want to show them the ropes.
2.9 Work Samples
2.9.1 A Financial Forecasting Graph
18
This graph was one of the working documents that I used to guide my decisions when
conducting financial analysis on Microsoft Excel. It shows Egis Group’s historical financial data,
such as its earnings, revenue, and total assets, specifically from 2015 to 2019. During my
internship, I used this graph to understand Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s financial
trajectory, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. It was crucial for me to understand how
Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s earnings can be affected by unexpected occurrences, such
as natural calamities. This is crucial information to understand since the company operates in
Saudi Arabia’s mobility service, construction engineering, and consulting sectors, which were
heavily affected by the pandemic. I used this graph to understand how Egis Saudi Engineering
Consultancy can avoid financial turmoil in case of an unprecedented natural calamity. I came to
the decision that the company should incorporate technology in its service groups, be ahead of its
competition, and spearhead its respective sectors of operation.
2.9.2 A Graph of Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s EBITDA and Net Profit Ratios
19
During the financial analysis that I conducted during the internship, it was crucial for me
to understand Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy’s Earnings Before Interest, Taxes,
Depreciation, and Amortisation (EBITDA). This financial ratio is a profitability metric that
enables companies to focus on their core performance rather than the effects of non-core
financial expenses. EBITDA also shows how well a company manages its day-to-day operations,
such as the cost of goods sold (Okunev, 2022). In the above graph, one can see that Egis Group’s
EBITDA margin, which reflects Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy, is constantly fluctuating.
This implies that there is a lot of uncertainty in Egis Group’s respective industries, which
impacts its profitability. Thus, Egis Saudi Engineering Consultancy should increase its market
outreach, especially after the pandemic, and ensure that it dominates Saudi Arabia’s mobility
service, construction engineering, and consulting sectors for maximum profitability. The
company should also ensure that it has reasonable production costs to maintain relatively stable
net profit margins.
